STXM is a leading designer of RO-RO Ferries in North America and provides capabilities that cover all types and sizes. For the North American market STX Canada Marine has designed several vessels for the British Columbia Ferry Corporation ranging from an 80 vehicle, open-decked inter-island ferry to a 470 vehicle fully enclosed ferry designed to carry a large tractor-trailer load as well as passenger vehicles.
Other ferry designs include smaller coastal and inter-island ferries operating in Alaska and on the Maine coast, each of which is configured for ease of loading and with basic but functional passenger facilities. Again, the extensive experience of STXM’s partner company STX Offshore & Shipbuilding in design and construction of large RO-RO ferries provides a database and knowledge that places. STXM at the forefront in the design of vessels of this type.
On 18 April 2006, the cruise ferry Galaxy was delivered for Tallink from STX Offshore & Shipbuilding shipyard in Rauma. The contract worth 165 million Euro was signed in October 2004. The vessel started cruises from Helsinki to Tallinn. The vessel is one of the biggest cruise ferries in the Baltic Sea, having capacity for 2,800 passengers. The guiding principle in designing the vessel is paying attention to the comfort and luxury of present-day passengers. The use of high-tech solutions onboard is maximal. |
